Awkward Threesomes

Best Man Speeches from Hell

Sam talks about one of his own speeches at a wedding. But it doesn’t come close to one of the worst speeches of all time.

#LifeProTip – Don’t talk about threesomes with the bride in your best man speech. It’s awkward. Maybe even more awkward than the threesome of presidential contenders we have left on the Republican side.

Delegate Numbers

To prevent an uncontested convention, candidates have to get to 1237 delegates. The RNC says that 674 delegates are still up for grabs. But realistically only 617 of those delegates will go toward hitting the magic number before the convention.

Here is the breakdown of where the candidates stand today:

Donald Trump has locked up 845 delegates so far. That means that he has to get 63.53% of the remaining delegates to reach 1237. It’s likely he can hit that number with the next five races on Tuesday, April 26. But it’s less clear he’ll be able to do so in some of the races further out.

Ted Cruz is now officially in the land of impossibility for a pre-convention win. His third place loss in New York means that he remains at 542 delegates and must now win 112.64% of those delegates who remain. I’m sure his campaign manager is telling him, like a high school football coach, to give 110%. But even then he’d still come up short.

John Kasich has finally picked up a few more delegates. He got a five delegate bump in New York which puts him at 149 (he most likely celebrated with confetti). Rubio, who dropped out of the race more than a month ago, still leads Kasich by a decent margin with 172 delegates.

Title Nein!

Title IX was created as an attempt to end gender discrimination on campuses. For a long time its farthest reach was in demanding equal funding in college sports. Which meant many colleges had to end popular men’s sports programs so they could build a women’s gymnastics or bowling team.

How does the federal government have jurisdiction over these schools in the first place? The Department of Education provides federal funds to schools in many different forms. One of the most important of these is student loans. While they can’t legally demand a university do something, they can threaten to withhold federal funding or end student loans for a school that doesn’t fall in line.

Basically, the federal government says, “as long as you live under my roof, you’ll obey my rules!” And the states obey because they’re scared to move out and make it on their own (with the possible exception of Texas, who is constantly threatening to run away).

Lately Title IX has been used in conjunction with campus sexual assault cases. The overreach is completely insane. Take a seat, prepare for a bit of outrage, and listen to the podcast.

Trump Spends Less

Say what you will about Donald Trump, he’s been able to do much more with his campaign with far fewer resources. His cost per vote is much lower than any candidate. And the amount he spent in New York compared to other candidates will blow your mind.
